Please join us on Thursday, August 25th at 6pm. The ride will be about 6.5 miles and begin at the southeast corner of Lents Park at SE 92nd and Steele. Come learn about our shared passion for:
This year’s ride will be about 6.5 miles in the Lents community and include brief presentations from culturally specific organizations including Native American Youth and Family Center, The Skanner Foundation, Latino Network, Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon, Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center, Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization and the Center for Diversity and Environment. The ride will include a stop at Zenger Farms to enjoy home-cooked tamales from Hacienda Community Development Corporation’s Micro Mercantes program. Bicycling is a great way to bring folks together to see our neighborhoods and communities from a new and different perspective, reduce impacts to our environment and build community. It’s also a great means for transportation and recreation and a great way to get some exercise! The 2nd Annual Equity Bike Ride strives to educate, heighten awareness and bring diverse communities together to learn about the geographic, racial, economic and environmental equity efforts underway in our communities and specifically in East Portland. Some of you may know ODOT is working to improve and boost the number of users to the I-205 Multi-Use Path, a separated bicycle and pedestrian path that runs N/S parallel to I-205 and the new Max Green Line for about 16.5 miles from Marine Drive south to Gladstone. In partnership with Friends of Trees (with funding from Metro's Nature in Neighborhood Capital Grant program) and with help from the community, neighbors and volunteers, we have planted over 4,000 trees and shrubs along the path over the last two years. Bring your friends, families and colleagues to take some time to come learn about this effort mentioned above and the terrific work of our partners. Sponsors of the Equity Bike Ride who will join ODOT this year include Audubon Society of Oregon, Community Cycling Center, East Portland Action Plan, Friends of Trees, TriMet, and the Portland Bureau of Transportation. |
